Dear Life Care Planning Colleagues,
LAST CHANCE to volunteer to be a part of the development of a Life Care Planning Costing Framework. As you are aware, the May 12-15, 2022, IALCP Summit addressed costing strategies in life care planning. Summit attendees provided significant information on which to continue towards the goal of building consensus on life care planning costing issues and strategies. The next step is development of a Costing Framework.
Laura Woodard and I are co-chairs of the Costing Framework Project. We are moving forward to create a tool for decision-making guidance regarding costs shown in a life care plan. The Summit Committee's goals for development of the Costing Framework are to build a tool to:
- Identify the variables to be considered in making cost decisions
- Identify the circumstances when costing variables are relevant and how these variables may be considered in defining life care plan costs
- Identify the pros and cons of costing variable utilization
- Determine if development of an algorithm for costing decision making (decision tree) is indicated and if so, define Costing Framework Algorithm
- It is acknowledged that a Costing Framework algorithm will inherently require flexibility in the generation of costing decisions as no single method will fit all situations. Therefore, expertise and clinical judgement will continue to be a component of life care planning costing methodology.
To move this project forward we are finalizing formation of a Costing Framework Working Group and Costing Framework Advisory Committee. We invite life care planners to participate and are looking for colleagues with an interest in costing and an interest in developing a Costing Framework to address costing strategies in life care planning. Whether or not you were able to attend the May 12-15, 2022, IALCP Summit, all life care planners are invited to participate in the development of a life care planning Costing Framework.
We are looking for diversity in terms of life care planner's geographic location, profession, credentials, years of experience, etc. If you are interested, please PRIVATELY email Laura Woodard (lwoodard@reentry.com) and Dana Penilton (dana@danapenilton.com) a statement of interest describing why you are interested, what you would like to contribute to this process, if you prefer to be on the Working Group or Advisory Committee and your CV by September 9, 2022. Please put COSTING FRAMEWORK in Subject line of your email.
We have a limited number of slots to ensure the Working Group and Advisory Committee can function efficiently. If you are selected to participate, you will be assigned to the Working Group or Advisory Committee so we can balance diversity of participants. If you prefer working with one committee over the other, please indicate so in your statement of interest.
