Dear Life Care Planning Colleagues,
The May 12-15, 2022, Summit addressed costing strategies in life care planning. Summit attendees provided significant information on which to continue towards the goal of building consensus on costing issues/strategies. The next step is development of a Costing Framework.
Laura Woodard and I are chairs of the Costing Framework Committee, and we are moving forward to create a tool for decision-making guidance regarding costs shown in a life care plan. The Summit Committee's goals for development of the Costing Framework are to build a tool to:
- Identify the variables to be considered in making cost decisions
- Identify the circumstances when the variables are relevant
- Identify the pros/cons of the using or not using the variables
- Possibly create an algorithm for decision making (decision tree)
- This document inherently acknowledges that there is flexibility in cost decisions, and there is no single method that fits all situations.
To move this project forward we are now forming a Costing Framework Working Group and Advisory Committee. We invite life care planners to participate and are looking for colleagues with an interest in costing and an interest in developing a Costing Framework to address costing strategies in life care planning.
We are looking for diversity in terms of geographic location, profession, credentials, years of experience, etc. If you are interested, please PRIVATELY email Laura Woodard (lwoodard@reentry.com) and Dana Penilton (dana@danapenilton.com) a statement of interest describing why you are interested, what you would like to contribute to this process, if you prefer to be on the Working Group or Advisory Committee and your CV by August 15, 2022. Please put COSTING FRAMEWORK in Subject line of your email.
We do have a limited number of slots to ensure the Working Group and Advisory Committee are able to function efficiently. If you are selected to participate, you will be assigned to the Working Group or Advisory Committee so we can balance diversity of participants.
Working Group Expectations:
- Attend Working Group meetings
- Frequency of meetings to be determined by Working Group members
- Expect a significant time commitment
- Willingness to share your insight and experience related to your involvement in life care plan costing education, have extensive knowledge of life care plan costing, or have an interest in helping guide our field in defining and developing costing strategy framework
- The Working Group will draft a Life Care Planning Costing Framework
Advisory Committee Expectations:
- Attend Advisory Committee Meetings
- Frequency of meetings to be determined by Advisory Committee
- Willingness to share your insight and experience related to your involvement in life care plan costing education, have knowledge of life care plan costing, or have an interest in helping guide our field in defining and developing costing strategy framework. People of all experience levels are welcome to apply.
- Review and provide feedback on Working Group's draft Costing Framework
- The Summit Committee is assigned to the Advisory Committee. If you are a member of the Summit Committee, please let us know if you prefer to be in the Working Group and your preference will be honored. We know how much work you put into planning the Summit, but you are not done yet…. more fun times ahead.
We tentatively plan to notify people of assignments by mid-September and start meetings by the beginning of October.
Thank you for your interest. We are excited about the next phase of this project.
