Just curious on this trend - have a family member admitted through the ER into a unit of an inpatient facility. Meals are not included during your hospital stay all items breakfast lunch dinner snacks
must be ordered and paid separately. Example a simple fruit plate $27 dollars. This is an Illinois hospital. Any similar trends?

Wow, Rebecca. I've never heard of anything similar in my area. Are patients allowed to have family bring in food or use meal delivery services such as Grub Hub?

My dad is spoiled so among my large family we bring home cooked meals. I am thinking about about people who have limited support and compromised in the first place otherwise they would not be confined.

How about Covid restrictions. Many hospitals are limiting visits and are absolutely not allowing any outside food to be brought in. This is crazy!

I'm also shocked by this policy. I can see a "home cooked meal" being loaded with salt, fat and other nasties is that might have been the reason for the patient's hospitalization to begin with. I wonder about liability on the part of the hospital for such a policy if the decision to allow meals to be brought in by family were to contribute to a deterioration of the patient's medical status.

I think the lawyers will have a field day with this.

Well as a self appointed amateur chef I have full control of dietary restrictions 😎

But to your point - you do lose control of any required or recommended restrictions.

COVID restrictions tight with limitations on volume and time. My heart breaks for people who do not have a support system.

Being literally isolated in these rooms is no doubt having an impact. Short staffed tigh bandwidth

It will be interesting to see what studies emerge from this time period and emerging roles of retained patient advocates by family members to be available during inpatient confinements
