The "Pittsburgh People" (Patty Costantini, Debbe Marcinko, Heidi Fawber, David Zak) have met on numerous occasions to discuss what recommendations and information to share with you before & during your visit to Pittsburgh.  One of our topic areas was OUR own favorite restaurants (vs. the "best" lists previously provided).  As it turns out, our list got so long that it would likely not be very helpful.

SO, I am going to share with you some ideas for places to go to eat.  I already mentioned an important one the other day, the Osyter House in Market Square.  I also told you my 2 favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh are Alla Famiglia and Kaya

You MUST visit Mt. Washington, even if you do not eat at a restaurant there.  You can take the incline from the Station Square area to get there.  http://www.duquesneincline.org/
IF you decide to eat while on Mt. Washington, there are several restaurants from which to choose.  The most popular right now is Altius.  http://altiuspgh.com/

Here are a few other popular & fun spots to consider.

    1.      Primanti Brothers – https://www.primantibros.com/
I am only saying this because this place makes every article about food in Pittsburgh!  My opinion is that it's only ok, but maybe you need to go in the middle of the night to make it truly Pittsburgh.  It's quite a tourist attraction/destination.

    2.      Church Brew Works – http://churchbrew.com/
Almost all out of town visitors stop here.  It's a lot of fun & very interesting to see.  There are many craft beers and the food is different and quite good.  They even have a daily pierogi special, which confirms you're in Pittsburgh.

    3.      Penn Brewery - http://www.pennbrew.com/Home.aspx
Notice a theme here?  People lately have moved beyond IC (Iron City) Light & like good beer.

    4.      Grand Concourse – http://www.grandconcourserestaurant.com/
Adequate restaurant in a beautiful setting (old train station).

    5.      Il Pizzaiolo - http://pizzaioloprimo.com/
Fabulous pizza & now have a place in Market Square downtown.

    6.      William Penn Hotel, Terrace Room or Palm Court – https://www.omnihotels.com/hotels/pittsburgh-william-penn
Great brunch and lovely high tea respectively.

    7.      The Commoner - http://www.thecommonerpgh.com/
    New and delicious.

    A few other ideas:

    8.      Eleven – Strip District – elegant, always delicious
    9.      Casbah – Shadyside
    10.  Chengdu Gourmet – Squirrel Hill
    11.  Mediterranean Grill – Squirrel Hill
    12.  Piper's Pub – South Side
    13.  Green Forest Churrascaria – Penn Hills
    14.  Lydia's (yes, that Lydia!) – Strip District
    15.  Original Hot Dog Shoppe – Oakland
    16.  Chinatown Inn - Downtown
    17.  Ritter's Diner – Bloomfield
    18.  DeLuca's Diner – Strip District
    19.  Pamela's – Strip District (a favorite of the Obamas) – tremendous crepe-like pancakes

Ok, I have not finished listing the places we each consider worth trying.  But I hope this list, along with the "best" lists, will be a start for keeping you well fed during your visit.

    See you soon!
