Jeff Newbauer's presentation

I just finished an in-service training by Jeff Newbauer with Fairhealth.  As you may know this program provides cost information for Life Care Planners all over the nation, which can be localized with the simple addition of a zip code.  These costs come from some 99% of all insurance carriers in the nation.  I find the program incredible and have already signed up.  I would encourage all Life Care Planners to give it some consideration.  Many thanks!

Do the data involve charge rates or reimbursement rates, or both?

They involve what some 99% of what hospitals in the nation pay for procedures, surgeries, etc.  Highly recommend you just ask for a demo.

The FairHealth data represents billed charges submitted to insurance companies for services including anesthesia, dental, inpatient, outpatient and medical.

The FairHealth data can be pulled by CPT code and represents out of pocket versus reimbursed rates applicable to physicians' fees for surgical procedures, fees for radiology and physical therapy, labs, etc. Facility charges are not included in the FairHealth database.

As I understand it from discussion with Jeff, the charge for use of the FairHealth database would be based on the number of queries.

Per Jeff, the FairHealth data can be pulled by HCPCS and DRG in addition to CPT.  The CPT code is used to get charges for medical and outpatient services, the DRG code is used to get inpatient (facility) charges and the HCPCS code is used for supplies and equipment.  You may have to do several searches to get a complete charge for a procedure (i.e. CPT for physician, DRG for facility, HCPCS for supplies and equipment).

    Talking to Jeff right now.

The charges are pulled from the insurance claims. These are charges not what is paid or reimbursed.

    Facility charges are there.

If using free consumer access you do not have access to the facility charges, never have.

The packages put out by FairHealth for IARP do include facility charges.

    The charges are in percentiles.

Outpatient is the facility charge for the procedure, etc.

Inpatient is the facility charge for the MS-DRG total and also can input for per day.

    Hope this helps.

Ann, so is there any data they offer than cannot already be obtained from other treatises and data sources customarily relied upon by LCPlanners?

We will be contacting Jeff Neubauer to ask these questions, but can anyone tell me if the application can be loaded on a server and if multiple users can access it simultaneously?

    Thanks.

Don't know that my good friend.  Jeff can be reached at (212) 370-0704.  At least, that is the information on the invoice.  Bob, he will be giving presentations, I think once a week to members who are interested.  Hope you are well
