Dianne Simmons Grab New Editor for Journal of Life Care Planning
The IARP Life Care Planning IALCP Section Board of Directors has selected Dianne Simmons Grab as the editor of the Journal of Life Care Planning. She will assume her duties immediately. The position of editor has been open for several months. The last issue of the Journal was published in 2013. Section Chair Patty Costantini said she hoped the new editor would be able to begin republishing the Journal in the second quarter of 2015 and return to quarterly frequency.
The Journal of Life Care Planning publishes refereed education and research materials relative to the practice and processes of life care planning . Its objectives include adding to the growing literature base of the practice of life care planning. The Journal provides a forum for debate and discussion of practice issues and enhances the practice of life care planning by addressing issues relevant to certification, ethics, standards of practice, and research methodologies. In a recent survey of the members of the life care planning IAL CP section, the overwhelming majority found the Journal to be of significant value to the professional development. They found particular value in research and empirically based materials
In endorsing the candidacy of Ms. Simmons Grab, IARP past presidents, Janine Holloman of Grandville, Mich. and Bob Taylor, Phoenix, Ariz., described Dianne as a teacher and role model in the life care planning community who insists on adherence to established life care planning practice methods. Mr. Taylor said, " Dianne knows the importance of the JLCP to the practice of life care planning and life care planning certificants. She knows what is necessary to build consensus among the members of the editorial board and the readers of the JLCP taking it to the next level".
Ms. Holloman described Dianne as, "For close to 40 years Dianne has been a dedicated life care planner, and earned local, state and national recognition for her work. She has spoken on the topic of professional ethics as well as other service delivery topics numerous times. She also has the ability to meet deadlines and work effectively with the Journal editorial staff, the IARP board and the journal publisher as she demonstrated in the past during her 10 years of experience on the IARP board."
Tina Trudel, assistant professor of clinical psychiatry, University of Virginia School of Medicine, praised the new editor, " Dianne has networked extensively, develop successful conference programs, organized projects and teams, and has presented and authored work in the field individually and collaboratively. She is competent with APA format and has facilitated dialogue and debate regarding life care planning. Her publications and presentations have been positively regarded and reflect well on the field"
In her application for the position of editor of the Journal of Life Care Planning, Ms. Simmons-Grab wrote, " I am passionate about IARP and more passionate about the Journal. I believe it is an important publication and essential to our profession. I've seen articles from the Journal utilized in court to defend a recommendation." She further stated, " I am committed to making this Journal succeed. I plan to have ethics articles at the end of the Journal available for continuing education credits. Our profession needs ethics continuing education... By having CEU's attached to ethics articles more readers will pay attention to them."
"I have a long history with IARP. I served on both local boards and as a director for 10 years. I served on the international board... as president at the time served as president it was a difficult time for IARP. The financial condition was questionable. Due to the work of the team of board of directors we put in place we were able to right- size IARP... I believe my tenure as past president illustrates that once I make a commitment to responsibility, I put my heart and soul into it."
Chair Costantini also announced that a new job description for the JL CP editorial board has been agreed upon by the Life Care Planning IALCP Board of Directors and Ms. Simmons Grab will play an integral part with the section board in the selection of the members of the editorial board for the Journal.
