ISLCP 2014 20 Years: Honoring the Past, Navigating the Present and Shaping the Future

<u5:p> </u5:p>Please join us to help celebrate our first 20 years of life care planning education. The 2014 ISLCP will be held in the Twin Cities September 20th - 21st, with pre-conferences to be held September 18th and 19th. Come visit Minneapolis at The Hotel Marriott City Center, rated among the top 10% of US hotels in 2013 by TripAdvisor. Balmy days in the low 70's, and crisp, cool nights in the low 50's are predicted. And if the unexpected happens, our hotel is connected by skywalk to the commercial and cultural heart of the city. Within walking distance of everything downtown, options include a great night life, world class shopping, sports and the theatre district. This year will offer something for everyone, from the newest practitioner to the veteran planner. We have teamed with Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare for Friday's pre-conference. Gillette is recognized as a Center for Excellence for Cerebral Palsy, Craniofacial Services, Gate and Motion Analysis, as well as Pediatric Neurosciences, Orthopedics, Rehabilitation and Subspecialty Care. Gillette health care providers will discuss CP, TBI, spasticity and robotic and gravity assisted technology for Pediatric and Adult Rehabilitation. A tour of Gillette will be offered Thursday evening and transportation has been arranged.
<u5:p> </u5:p>During the day on Thursday, we will focus on the "nuts and bolts" of a life care planner's practice. Topics will address organizing your practice, developing business and building relationships, insurance, expert testimony and how to use digital technologies to develop a virtual office. One hour of ethics credit will be offered. This pre-con provides a forum to learn from each other, by sharing concerns, ideas and alternatives. What works, what doesn't and how our practice evolves over time are all on the agenda.
<u5:p> </u5:p>And for our main conference: Continuing our Pediatric theme, our keynote speaker will be Patrick Donohue who began the Sarah Jane Brain Project, named after his infant daughter who experienced an acquired brain injury (ABI). General Sessions will consider the importance of productive activity in life care planning, secondary health conditions after ABI and SCI, ethical responsibilities, planning for sexual health needs, the impact of amputation and addressing the needs of the Caregiver. Break-out sessions will offer more specific topics such as working with a physiatrist, pricing home modifications, artificial disc replacement and life care planning in Mexico and Latin America. Finally, as befits a 20 year celebration, we will have a dinner party with a DJ Friday evening at our hotel. Bring your honey, find a dancing partner, or just get comfortable with old friends - we are going to have a good time!
