  • 1.  Specially Adapted Housing Grants

    Good evening,

In preparing for a deposition, I know that we frequently use the VA Specially Adapted Housing loans to give an estimate of the $$ of architectural modifications.  However, can anyone cite a reason/foundation for why this citation is appropriate?  Is it because it represents in general what it costs to modify a home to make it accessible for someone with a disability?

I appreciate any and all comments.  Thank you.

It is an arbitrary dollar amount that life care planners use which in reality is simply the maximum that VA allows to service members with a disability.  Why would we use such a figure for a life care plan that is not truly reflective of the person's needs?  I don't see any foundation for this figure outside that it is just an example of what a government agency would pay maximally.  Why not hire an OT to review the home, have him or her write a report and then have a contractor provide an estimate?
