Open Message to the Life Care Planning Community

As previously announced, the IALCP, a Section of IARP, is revising the Standards of Practice for Life Care Planners.  A call for volunteers to assist led to about 35 people offering to participate.  A committee of 12, representing Canada and the United States, and representing the major disciplines that do life care plans, has been created.  Additionally, other volunteers will be used for review and analysis of possible changes.  This posting is intended to provide an update on the project.

The committee is reviewing relevant documents that may have implications for the Standards.  These documents currently include the Role and Function Study, the LCP Survey, Summit statements from 2006 - 2012, and the AANLCP Standards.  Plans are in process to create a survey that will be open to all life care planners and to those who use life care planners to solicit comments and suggestions.  Please watch for announcements about the survey in the next 2 - 3 weeks.

The goal is to have a draft of the 3rd edition ready for field review and comment by the 2013 ISLCP.  However, the committee is committed to ensuring a thorough process, so it is possible that the timeline may change.   The field review period will provide another opportunity for comments and suggestions.

Throughout this project, you may contact the committee to ensure that your voice is heard.  Committee members are: Karen Preston (Chairperson), Kathie Allison, Deb Berens, Giovanna Boniface, Patty Costantini, Elizabeth Davis, Ann Neulicht, Chris Reid, Sharon Reavis, Susan Riddick-Grisham, Tracy Wingate, and Steve Yuhas.
