    To all life care planners:
The IALCP has begun working on the 3rd edition to the Standards of Practice for Life Care Planners.
We want to let everyone know the process that will be followed.
    1.  Seek qualified committee members (see separate email for request for volunteers and current list of committee members)
    2.  Review all relevant sources that may shape SOP, including:
         a. Role and Function study
         b. LCP practice study
         c. Summit statements for 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2012 (all statements since 2nd edition)
         d.  Any pertinent research or publications
         e.  AANLCP SOP and from other relevant associations/disciplines to ensure no conflict
         f.  Comments and suggestions offered by LCP practitioners
    3.  Determine whether changes are necessary to reflect the evolving field based on above sources
    4.  Create the first draft of the 3rd edition
    5.  Make the draft available for field review by LCPers
    6.  Finalize the draft based on feedback
    7.  Publish the 3rd edition

We will follow several general principles of SOP creation/revision commonly used by professional associations, not just by IALCP:
    1.  SOP should provide generalized direction that permits the use of professional judgement and can be applied to routine and novel situations.
    2.  SOP reflects a majority concensus.
    3.  Drafts will be clearly marked as such and may not be used to replace the 2nd edition, nor shall drafts be used by others to measure our adherence to SOP.
    4.  The review and revision process must be inclusive and transparent.
    5.  Drafts will be made available and sufficient time will be permitted for review by practitioners.
Please note that most associations conduct review and revisions only within their membership, however, IALCP committee plans to seek and accept comment from all LCPer, not just IALCP members.

We expect the entire process to take 1+ years.
A session will be offered at the 2013 ISLCP to update everyone on the process and status; if possible, the first draft will be available then.
Please offer any suggestions or concerns about the current SOP or the revision process that you may have to me (I am chairing the committee).
