This message has been cross posted to the following Discussions: IALCP Section Board and IALCP .

Happy New Year to All Life Care Planners,

On behalf of the 2013 ISLCP Education Committee, I am sending this email to ask for your input. We are looking forward to seeing you at this year's International Symposium on Life Care Planning in Atlanta, Georgia, at the beautiful InterContinental Hotel on September 28-29, 2013 with pre-conference programs on the 26th and 27th.  Mark your calendars now and make plans to attend! Please visit www.islcp.org.

Last year's ISLCP brought  James J. Mangraviti, Jr. Esq. of SEAK to do a day long pre-conference program on "How to be an Effective Life Care Planner Expert Witness."  The overwhelming response was so favorable that we have  successfully arranged to bring Jim back for another day long program that will be customized to address the unique issues you face each day. To help serve your needs, we are asking for your suggestions to guide the content of this unique program, called "SEAK 2."

Would you take a minute to tell us what you would like included in this day long pre-conference? Some have suggested we include a discussion focused on how to deal with a Daubert challenge. Please give us your feedback. Would this be useful? What other areas would you like included? You are free to offer your feedback using the IARP Connect Discussion Group  or if you would like to send them directly to me my email is sgrisham@comcast.net. We look forward to your comments.

    Many thanks,

    Susan

    Susan Riddick-Grisham

http://www.kelynco.com/services.asp Hello - a quick question..... I entered the life care planning world via Patty Mccullom. She was awesome and do not really have a strong mentor to get advice from. I was given your name via AALNC. I am curious to know if the above is true? Was Kelly a founder of the professional of Nurse life care planning? Was she a founder of AANLCP? Thanks?

She, in fact, did found AANLCP, but rumor has it that she has since left that group and started, or attempted to start, another credential. I believe it is/was called Certified Life Planner or something like that. I do not know her role in any other activity or professional organization, but claiming to being the (sole) founder of the profession of nurse life care planning may be a stretch as Patty and others were very involved professionally as nurse life care planners prior to the creation of the certification of AANLCP. Sorry I cannot be more definitive about this but have not had the need or desire to research the history in any detail. Is there a specific reason you need this information other than professional curiosity. Bill Wm. R. Forwarded with permission of Dr. Weed as posted in 2007. From: Roger Weed [rweed@bellsouth.net] Sent: Tuesday, December 18, 2007 7:14 PM To: 'lcpforum@careplanners.net' Subject: RE: [LCP Forum Mailing List] CNLCP ARTICLE Kelly Lance RN First, I am sending this message NOT in the role of Chair of the ethics committee for IALCP, nor board member of FLCPR, nor as a GSU professor. With regard to the statement (“..founder of … the profession of Nurse Life Care Planning”), some clarification may be reasonable. Several months ago, multiple people contacted me with regard to the statement above found in postings and ads in various forms of wording. I wrote a letter in February, 2007 to Kelly, who I understand wrote the statement, and urged her to be more fair and accurate in her representations. Although at least one correction was made to more fairly reflect the information, based on the recent post below and the Kelynco website, it seems there are still representations that do not appear to include the whole picture. For those on the listserv who may not be as familiar with this part of LCPing history, a few comments: Paul Deutsch was the first rehabilitation professional to formally teach “life care planning” to nurses in the mid 1980s. He is considered the "founder" of the “life care planning” process and was the first one to publish (with Fred Raffa) on the topic in the early 1980s. Susan Riddick-Grisham was the first nurse to formally teach other nurses an organized series of life care planning classes when she was hired by Crawford & Company in the early 1990s. It may be obvious, but she underwent specific life care planning training prior to teaching the methodology to others. She was also the only nurse to help develop the original nationwide training program curriculum launched by the Rehabilitation Training Institute (which later became Intelicus). Patti McCollom was the first nurse to start an organization specific for nurses and life care planning in the mid 1990s when she founded the American Academy of Nurse Life Care Planners. Under Patti's direction and at the urging of others, the organization was expanded to include life care planners from disciplines including and outside of nursing (i.e., multidisciplinary) and is now known as the International Academy of Life Care Planners. Most on this list serve probably know that she orchestrated a move of the organization to the IARP umbrella before succumbing to cancer. With regard to life care planning credentials, Bob May was the first to offer nurses a certification opportunity. And, of course, there are many nurses who have been involved in life care planning since the mid 1980s. All of the above predated the American Association of Nurse Life Care Planners organization. Certainly credit should be given to Kelly for beginning the nurses’ only organization and nurse’s only certification. In the spirit of giving credit to the pioneers and visionaries, respectfully submitted, Roger Roger O.
