Open Letter to The Life Care Planning Community:
Fellow Life Care Planners:
You have heard from many of the leaders in Life Care Planning giving you all the reasons why it is important for you to join together at Summit and be part of setting the precedents that will move this field forward over the next several years. Frankly, I cannot add much to what they have said.
What I can tell you is that a failure to participate can lead to some serious consequences for Life Care Planning. There are issues in our field that require us to come to agreement or upon which we need to reach a general consensus. These are not issues we want decided by a court or a group of attorneys who do not understand Life Care Planning. I want those of us practicing within this sub- specialty to have the primary say in what is most important for use in our practice, not third party influences that have little understanding of the principles, methodologies, tenets and foundations that should drive our work.
In past years we set a limit on the number of people we could have at Summit and usually turned people away. As the earliest practitioners have gradually retired and younger members have joined our ranks it has become more difficult to explain the importance of the Summit concept. I would like to make a personal appeal to each person out there to consider carefully the value in coming together under the Summit Forum to discuss, evaluate and reach consensus on some of the most pressing and critical issues facing our individual practices today. Trust me when I say that if you do not care enough to participate in this Forum to take part in shaping these issues, you will eventually be taking part in answering the same questions on the witness stand and/or in deposition without the support of the information gathered at Summit and without being able to state that you participated in working on these issues during Summit. You may even be asked why you failed to participate in one of the more important Forums in your field.
Please consider carefully before making the decision not to attend the 2012 Summit.
Thank you,
