Life Care Planners now find themselves in the midst of challenges unlike any that we have seen in many years. The growth in our industry and the changes and challenges in our health care delivery system have placed additional pressures on planners to deliver plans of the highest quality. It is important that as a professional organization we do whatever possible to provide clarity, support and educational opportunities for each of our members so that they have access to the tools they need to meet these challenges. A focus on appropriate credentialing of new planners and the support of them in their practices will be important to me in this role.

What is your vision for IARP during your term?

My vision is to promote growth within the IARP/JALCP community while also focusing on maintaining high standards for the credentialing and ongoing education of new and existing members.

Stephen Mann

Describe your qualifications for the position

I have practiced Rehab Medicine for over 30 years. In 2013, I completed the C.L.C.P. program and have been working in the field since.

What do you hope to accomplish during your term if elected?

In the last 4 years, I have reviewed many Life Care Plans that have failed because they were done incorrectly. The possibility error for a particular patient is due to the lack of understanding of the science behind the recommendations. Medicine is changing at an ever-increasing rate; the methods used IO years may no longer be appropriate or relevant today. Most Life Care Planers, unfortunately, do not possess the Medical knowledge to understand and recognize what is no longer appropriate. This, in addition Physicians not responding to requests for assistance, in erroneous opinions.

This is now a very litigious area. Plaintiffs' Life Care Plans may be developed just to present the opening bid in a negotiation. The best standard is a plan that is accurate and accepted by both sides because it answers all the needs of the patient.

Without stricter standards, IARP could lose respectability as a certifying organization. The end product is a reflection of the organization. To maintain its relevancy, this organization must develop a way of enforcing its standards on its members and their reports.

What is your vision for IARP during your term?

My vision is to help improve the science portion of meetings. Better practice guidelines exist and should be the basis for all Life Care Plans.

Robert Taylor
Describe your qualifications for the position

I was privileged to serve as IARP President from 2005-2007.Prior to this, I was the Chair of the IARP Forensic Section from 2000-2001 and served as the Forensic Section Representative to the IARP Board of Directors from 2000-2004. I served as IARP Vice President from 2004-2005and 2007-2008. I have presented at IARP conferences for decades. I have served on the Editorial Advisory Board of The Rehabilitation Professional from 2012- Present and the Journal of Life Care Planning from 2015-Present.

IARP and life care planning are my passions. When I was President of IARP, the IALCP was a stand-alone association founded by one of the pioneers in the practice of life care planning, Patty McCollum. At Patty's request, I was able to work with the IARP Board of Directors and bring IALCP into IARP as a special section.

I have practiced life care planning for over 40 years. I am a certified life care planner and also serve a Commissioner of Life Care Planning for the ICHCC. I am the director of a forensic rehabilitation firm that I founded 33 years ago. I am committed to quality life care planning practice.  My experience as a leader in the field, life care planner and business owner provide me with the qualifications and experience to represent the IALCP on the IARP Board of Directors.

What do you hope to accomplish during your term, if elected?

The practice of life care planning is at a crossroads as life care planners are increasingly used as damages experts in forensic cases and testify in court. I want to be able to reinforce the need for strong, ethical and transparent life care planning practice methods and compliance with the Codes of Ethics of both IARP and the IALCP.I want to work with the IARP Board of Directors to enhance life care planning training programs and expand the existing mentoring program. I presently have 3 mentees with whom I am working to help the next generation of life care planners provide quality services and proudly represent the Academy and IARP.

I also want to use my decades of experience as a business owner and past experience on the IARP Board of Directors to help IARP to achieve the strongest financial position possible. Most of all, though, I want to be responsive to the needs of the members of the IALCP section and represent these needs to the IARP Board of Directors.

What is your vision for IARP during your term?

I would like to see IARP grow, especially in IALCP and Forensic Section membership. As life care planning is being used more as a tool in litigated cases to establish damages, it has been "discovered" by more and more rehabilitation professionals as a potential revenue source. IARP needs to be in the forefront in developing training programs that will enhance forensic and life care planning practice. I want to use my experience as a business owner of more than 30 years to help IARP members with business development efforts. I envision greater training opportunities for those entering the field through the existing mentoring program, in which I am a participant and for those advanced practice members who may be seeking new challenges and want to solidify the viability of their practice.

This vision is also applicable to all IARP sections. IARP has almost unlimited potential for growth as an association. I want to see IARP greatly expand its membership while working simultaneously to implement strategies to assure future fiscal responsibility and viability.

It will be an honor and privilege to serve the members of the IALCP Section and again work with my colleagues on the IARP Board of Directors.
