Good morning! We now have 146 responses to the White Paper Survey. The geographic practice areas leaderboard has shifted slightly:
- Texas is still in first place.
- Florida is still in second place; however, the gap between first and second place has become smaller, and Florida could possibly overtake Texas easily with a few more entries.
- Virginia is now in third.
- Pennsylvania remains in fourth place.
- California, New Jersey, and North Carolina are all tied for fifth.
- Ohio, Colorado, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Mexico, New York, Washington, DC, the state of Washington, Wisconsin, Missouri, and Kansas are all within an entry or two of entering the top five responses.
- We also have contenders for practices outside of the US and Canada, which are Japan, Ireland, Macedonia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Bosnia, and India!
If you haven't filled out the survey, please take less than five minutes to complete it here.

Sorry, no, I don't believe people are "too busy" to do a simple survey. Having been on the board, been on board and president of our local chapter twice, been on multiple state and national committees for this and other organizations, an employer, with many counselors, and a large caseload, I have heard a lot of the alleged "too busy" thing mixed in with all sorts of information which logically conflicts/suggests to me that such is usually just a fib. I had four kids and elderly folks as well. Everyone is busy. But in all that activity most of us can elect to either spend 10 minutes watching a game, reading a book, playing golf or doing a simple survey that might help all VEs. I don't think I am alone in concluding the "too busy" response is actually more like " I don't want to" or "I don't care". But I amy be wrong

Hmm....less than a 1/4 response rate amongst Forensic group members. Must be that old "I'm too busy" bit again. Busy, that is maybe planning the next fancy vacation, new home, new car purchase, "big game" or whatever we all hear about from colleagues. A bit of this sort of screen time out of your day as opposed to this or that game, Netflix thing or need/opportunity to bill another .1, is time better spent. Something like this, which would clearly benefit all VEs, ought to have a larger sample size. Should it not, the outliers and those otherwise less than competent amongst us will point to that fact.

Hello!
We have 130 responses. We are extending the response window to Friday, 11/9/2023 at 5:00 p.m. PT. The geographic practice area leaderboard, as of right now, is as follows:
- Texas remains in first place. Hook 'em!
- Florida still trails slightly behind Texas.
- North Carolina holds firm in third place. Petey Pablo would be proud!
- Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Virginia are tied for fourth place.
- California and Ohio are tied for fifth.
- There are eight other states/districts who could crack the top five with one or two more entries: Georgia, Massachusetts, New Mexico, Washington, DC, New York, South Carolina, Washington, and Wisconsin.
We are excited to take a look at this data and use it to complete the White Paper, which we plan have available to distribute for our members by January of 2024. If you haven't already, you can complete the form in less than five minutes here.

- Florida is still in second.
- Pennsylvania is holding at third.
- Illinois fell to fourth place.
- California and Virginia are tied and make up the top five.
- It is still a one-point game to come back to the top five between North Carolina, Maryland, and Ohio, followed by a tie for New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Washington, DC, and a new showing from the state of Washington!

We have jumped to 113 responses, and we'd like to close out the survey on 11/3/23. The current leading response stats for state practice areas are as follows:
- Texas is leading. Ahem. Still.
- Florida holds steady in second.
- Illinois and Pennsylvania are tied for third.
- California is in fourth place.
- North Carolina and Virginia round out the top five with a tie.
- New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, and Washington, DC are all tied with 13 responses each.
If you haven't had a chance to complete the survey, it is an easy form that will take less than five minutes here.

We got ninety-nine problems, but a survey ain't one!
JK. We do have 99 survey responses, though! If you got my reference above, come find me at the conference. I have a little prize for you.
- Texas continues to lead with responses.
- Florida is in second place, followed by a tie for third from Illinois and Pennsylvania, and California is in fourth place.
- North Carolina rounds out the top five, with Colorado, Virginia, and New Mexico each only one point behind.
- Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Washington, DC are all tied with 12 responses each, so any of those states could easily pull in to the top five with just two more responses each!
If you haven't already completed the survey, you can do so here.
Thanks,
Tricia

Honorable Mention to Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma, who have entered the group chat and are tied for sixth.

Thank you for all of the responses! We have jumped to 76, and they continue to roll in. We have also gotten really good feedback on the survey, which is helpful for clarification and building future surveys and datasets.
As of right now, Texas continues to lead in responses (Hook 'Em!) and North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Florida are tied for second place. California is in third, and Colorado, New Mexico, Oregon, and South Carolina are all tied for fourth place.
This is going to be an excellent resource for all of us, and we are excited about it! If you haven't completed the survey, you can access it here.

We gained 26 responses in two days, which was a nice jump! Scott is right in that the White Paper will be a tool we can all use to benefit and market our practices, and this should take less than five minutes to complete.
The Texans are still showing off with the most responses, followed by North Carolina. Florida and Pennsylvania are tied for third, but we have a showing from all 50 states, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Canada, and Japan!

The low response rate is bizarre and kind of embarrassing. I already don't believe people who may say they are "too busy". Could we consider making completion of such a basic requirement, "price of admission" to forensic section? As the results will be used in a White Paper that all VEs can then use to educate consumers and courts it seems like something of real potential benefit to all in terms of both marketing and professional qualifications/what one needs in order to compare well to peers. I am approaching retirement, don't want more work so don't care about the marketing aspect. But it will surely benefit most VEs.
Do it today!

One of the goals of the 2023-24 Forensic Section Board of Directors is to create a White Paper for members to use in promotion and marketing of their practices. The White Paper will include data points and explanation of our credentials, which will assist in explaining our roles and value on forensic cases to referral sources. More detailed information is available at beginning of the survey itself and will take five minutes (or less!) to complete and can be accessed here: IARP 2023 Forensic Section Survey
