The only reason that I have kept a (dedicated) fax number all these years is because of the notion that faxes are secure, whereas unencrypted emails are not.
As I said, it is a notion. Perhaps others more tech savvy than I might confirm or dispel the notion. For the moment, I believe that what I learned long ago about this is still true.
My fax software costs $7.95/mo. with Faxage. Incoming faxes arrive in one of my existing email addresses which I select, with the presumption that the "unsafe" transmission in "cyber" has been satisfied. As for outgoing faxes, I temporarily plug into my home phone (land line, yes, I have one) and send it out that way.
Would an email "send/receive" be quicker? Yes.
The question to me is one of safeguarding HIPAA regulations.
Meanwhile, my encryption software (ZixMail) works most of the time, except that some (larger companies) on the receiving end say that their system may not readily allow such emails to readily be received. That is when a fax is used in lieu.
So, what is the update on "security."-- if anyone may please let me know the latest? Thanks. Until that question is clearer to my satisfaction, the fax stays, here. :)

Listmates,
I can't remember the last time I used my fax number. Everything is scanned and sent by email now. I pay $30/month for the fax number and am thinking about discontinuing it. Have others done this as well?
