  • Vickie Kennedy honored with two industry awards

L&I Insurance Services Assistant Director Vickie Kennedy was recently honored by her peers in workers’ compensation by receiving two awards for her achievements. The International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions (IAIABC) honored Vickie with the Frances Perkins Award for 2021, one of seven President’s awards.

The IAIABC President’s awards are given to those who demonstrate commitment and achievement in advancing workers’ compensation systems throughout the world. The Frances Perkins award honors excellence for those following in the footsteps of Frances Perkins, former U.S. Secretary of Labor, IAIABC President and a role model for innovation and progressive leadership in workers' compensation and social security.

Vickie was also awarded a Comp Laude award from the national news website and educational center, workcompcentral.com. She was honored in the Industry Leader category.
The Comp Laude Awards have become a coveted honor in the workers’ compensation industry. Professionals are nominated annually by their peers in recognition of their significant industry contributions. They are nominated for being thought leaders and embodying the Comp Laude mission: to change the narrative of the workers’ compensation industry to a more positive dialogue.

L&I Director Joel Sacks congratulated Vickie, “These awards add to Vickie’s 50-year legacy of leadership in workers’ compensation at L&I. As I’ve said before, we’re fortunate to have Vickie on our team, a selfless leader who has dedicated her career to our mission to keep Washington safe and working.”
Vickie recently celebrated 50 years with L&I and has been a trailblazer in the workers’ compensation industry, most recently as assistant director for Insurance Services. In this role, she has been a strong advocate for worker-centric approaches to prevent work disability and improve the lives of workers to reduce costs to employers. Vickie announced her upcoming retirement for March 2022.
