Hello All,
I wanted to provide an update since I assumed the position of President of the NY Chapter. The NY Chapter has initiated discussions with the New England Chapter about a possible merger. This is something that the NY board has been discussing over the past couple of years and is a topic of discussion for many chapters across the country, many having already merged. The New York Chapter has just 43 members, and a board of 4. We continue our efforts to boost membership, and are currently recruiting Rehabilitation Counseling graduate students in NY state to join, their fees covered by the chapter. The board is in agreement that a merger is a better option than allowing the chapter to close, and that of course is the sentiment of IARP as a whole.
The New England Chapter is composed of Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. We won't formally begin the transition process until the spring, but wanted to make the NY Chapter members aware of our thoughts and intentions. Please forward any questions/concerns to me, I'll be happy to address them.
On another note, both the New England and PA chapters are holding conferences this spring, and I encourage all to check them out. The New England Chapter is offering attendance free to graduate students, I've made the three Rehabilitation Counseling programs in NY aware to share with their students.
Thank you, Christine DiTrinco
