Personal Observations on the 2011 Reform of the North Carolina Worker Compensation Law

On June 24, 2011, North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue signed into law the first significant reform of Worker Compensation in seventeen years. For the first time, Vocational Rehabilitation has been cited within the new law as a recognized professional service for injured workers. With increased visibility and credibility, the rehabilitation profession will have an opportunity to play a greater role in the worker compensation process.

N.C. Industrial Commission Publishes Proposed Rule Changes

In compliance with the Administrative Procedure Act, the North Carolina Industrial Commission has published proposed changes to its rules. The Notice of Rulemaking, the text of the proposed rules, and the fiscal impact analysis can be found here. A public hearing on the rules changes will be held on August 6, 2012, beginning at 9:00 am in Room 2173 of the Dobbs Building located at 430 North Salisbury Street, Raleigh, North Carolina 27603.
