The International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals National Board, and the Board of Directors of the IARP of the Carolinas would like to notify its membership of some recent developments.
Each year the Board of Directors of IARP of the Carolinas has filed a Form 990-N with the IRS in order to satisfy our tax-exempt reporting requirements with this agency. We were recently informed that all of our filings incorrectly used the National IARP’s Tax ID # instead of IARP of the Carolinas specific tax number. Our Board of Directors, nor the IRS, nor National IARP, with whom our financials are submitted each year, caught this mistake. As such, the IRS believes we have not properly filed taxes and has revoked our tax exempt status. Due to this issue, IARP National Board recommended that IARP of the Carolinas hire an attorney who specializes in assisting non-profits with tax issues. IARP of the Carolinas engaged such a tax attorney on May 10, 2017. This attorney has recommended several action steps, including resubmitting our Articles of Incorporation with the State of North Carolina. In order to submit these documents, approval from our membership is required.
In the next week, you will receive a ballot to vote on the Articles of Incorporation as well as additional information related to the vote. Please take the time read this information and to vote so we can move forward with rectifying this tax situation.
Please feel free to contact Gina Vieceli, President, or Sonja Ellington, Past President, with any questions you may have.
