CRCC has released a draft revised Code of Professional Ethics for Rehabilitation Counselors (Code) for public comment. The Code is a living document revised periodically based on changes in the profession.
The Ethics Committee initiated the revision process in 2013 with a review of issues identified by the Committee during complaint adjudication and review of requests for advisory opinions. This information was supplemented with a survey asking CRCs to describe ethical challenges faced in the recent past and to project ethically troubling issues to come in the future.
In late 2014, a ten member Code Revision Taskforce was formed. It includes subject matter experts, educators, practitioners, and applied ethicists from within the rehabilitation counseling profession. With data in hand, in March 2015, the Taskforce met to begin their work. Numerous work sessions were held to review each section of the Code. The Taskforce met again in January 2016 for a final review of the initial draft, which was then presented to the Ethics Committee.
"The Code has been revised and bolstered in a way that will benefit CRCs far into the future. Because your feedback is important, we will foster discussion about the draft on CRCC ENGAGE. Watch for those discussions so you can have an active voice in shaping the revised Code." states Linda Shaw, Chair of the CRCC Code Revision Taskforce.
The draft Code is now available for your comment through June 30, 2016. Comments will be accepted via electronic submission. To review the draft Code and provide your feedback, click here. You can access the survey multiple times. Your feedback will be saved each time, although it will not be visible to you if you return to the survey to make additional comments at a later date, so be sure to note where you left off in your review.
Due to substantial change and movement in the Code, a side-by-side comparison of each Standard was not feasible. Links to complete copies of the current and draft Code are available here and via the feedback link above. We recommend you download these documents so you can easily refer to them as you submit your feedback.
CRCC invites you to share your comments.
Sincerely,
Cindy A. Chapman, CAE
