Help IARP Honor Outstanding Members
IARP announces the launch of a new membership rewards/recognition program. The first stage of the program includes four awards to be presented at the 2015 conference in New Orleans in October. The awards highlight IARP members who have made lifetime contributions benefiting the total rehabilitation community. Equally important are the awards for outstanding professional members, distinguished leaders, and notable emerging professionals in the field.
Commenting on the program, IARP President Rick Robinson said, “I am pleased that the IARP Board of Directors has approved the membership awards recognition program. I have long felt that we should do a better job of honoring those who, throughout the years, have made long- term substantial contributions to the development and enhancement of the professional rehabilitation field. I am also encouraged that IARP will recognize those for their leadership skills and those who have volunteered so much of their time and talent to the association. Recognizing emerging professionals is our signal that we do have a commitment to revitalize, transform and strengthen IARP through the integration of the next generation of rehabilitation professionals.”
The IARP member recognition program was developed by a special subcommittee of the IARP Membership/Marketing Committee headed by Katherine Dunlap, a member of the IARP Board of Directors. The subcommittee was co-chaired by Stony Landry from Louisiana and Mitch Schmidt from Pennsylvania. Others contributing to the recommendations were Barbara Harvey, Virginia; John Maier, North Carolina; Paulette Freeman, Nebraska, Todd Harden, Texas, and Steve Shedlin, Maryland.
The IARP Board of Directors has recognized the work of the special subcommittee which created the comprehensive awards program by asking the members of the committee to remain as judges to review the applications for the four awards. The total committee will consist of 11 IARP members and will be finalized within the next several days.
The IARP staff coordinators for the program are Carl Wangman, executive director, and Marian Carlson, special events coordinator.
