    Folks:

At the recent RDCM board meeting Mary Harris said she believed that IARP lacked direction for its sections. I wanted to respond to her comment and provide you with the latest version of the IARP Vision, Mission, and Goals.

For the past two years the focus of the IARP  marketing plan has been on making the slogan "The Course of a Lifetime Starts with IARP" a reality. In carrying out that strategy it became clear to the IARP Board of Directors that the organization needed to re-evaluate its vision, mission, and goals. In January of this year a special task force of the IARP Board of Directors met in Chicago and, during its two-day session, conducted a comprehensive review of the organization. As a result we published the new vision, mission, and goals that are provided below.

    IARP VISION, MISSION, AND GOALS

    Vision Statement
The leading professional association of choice for rehabilitation professionals and those with interest in private sector rehabilitation.

    Mission Statement
Providing a lifelong community dedicated to the growth of rehabilitation professionals.

    Goal 1
Position IARP as the leader of lifelong learning and career development for the professional rehabilitation community.

    Goal 2
Promote a culture focused on collegial collaboration, mentoring professional and resource development aimed at member growth and retention.

    Goal 3

Revitalize, transform and strengthen the association through the integration of the next generation of rehabilitation professionals.

    Goal 4
Establish IARP as a leading source for high quality research and data beneficial to the rehabilitation community.

    Goal 5
Advance the association as a key stakeholder on legislative, regulatory, and policy issues impacting the career development on rehabilitation professional's career success.

Detailed  work remains to be done by the sections and committees at the IARP international level. We are developing specific strategies with timetables and financial implications for each of the five goals listed above. Rick Robinson, the IARP"s new president-elect, and IARP president, Lynne Tracy,  have asked each of the section leaders and committee chairs to incorporate the activities of their strategic direction into that of the overall organization.

We look forward to working with your section to ensure there is mutual agreement about our vision, mission, and goals.

Having participated in all the discussions of the strategic planning subgroup and of the IARP Board of Directors, Tony and I are  happy to answer questions about IARP and its direction.
