The Washington Research Council is seeking information. Until 2011, WA did not allow any settlements of workers' comp claims at all. Now they allow certain workers to opt for structured settlements, but there is still no lump sum option.
The Council is hoping to find examples of workers in other states who do have the option of a lump sum settlement of their workers' comp claims who have used that lump sum to start a business, or get education, or the like.
