[The following release is made on behalf of CACREP and CORE]

For immediate release – April 29, 2016

At the spring conference of the National Council on Rehabilitation Education (NCRE) held last week in Newport Beach, California, CACREP and its affiliate CORE announced plans to accept one final round of applications from CORE-accredited programs that wish to seek dually-accredited status as both a Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. This announcement was made following finalization of time limited policy statement agreed to by both accrediting organizations to allow CORE-accredited programs who may not have been eligible to apply under the original conversion policy, but had been developing their programs to include the necessary clinical components, an opportunity to seek the dual accreditation prior to the merger which occurs on July 1, 2017.

Programs interested in applying must send a letter of intent to CORE by June 30, 2016 and submit an application and abbreviated self-study document by January 15, 2017 using the 2009 CACREP Standards. There will be no extensions of the application deadline made available. Programs that successfully complete the dual accreditation review conducted jointly by CACREP and CORE will then be allowed to remain dually accredited through October 31, 2023. At the end of that accreditation cycle, any program seeking CACREP accreditation must follow current policies.

Please visit the CORE and CACREP websites at www.core-rehab.org and www.cacrep.org to obtain a copy of the CACREP/CORE Joint Policy Statement on Dual Accreditation.
