We welcome you to join us for the WA-Chapter Spring Webinar in lieu of the annual spring conference! We hope you are able to participate in this opportunity and come together during a time of much unknown.

We will learn more about Vocational Recovery changes and updates from Washington State Department of Labor and Industries' Ryan Guppy and Vickie Kennedy. Laura Rachel Kaufman, MD, PhD will be addressing meeting with the doctor on the second visit, Q&A style. Finally, we have Jeff Cockrum, a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor and Licensed Attorney, who will be covering ethical principles. (See their biographies below).

Rates: $25/members and $50/non-members.

Webinar Speakers

Ryan Guppy & Vickie Kennedy (Chief of Return to Work Partnerships & Assistant Director, Insurance Services @Washington State Department of Labor and Industries)

Ryan Guppy is Chief of L&I’s Return to Work Partnerships Program where he works to ensure the design, purchase, and effective use of work disability prevention interventions. He is a member of the Disability Management and Return-to-Work

Committee of the International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions and past president of the Washington IARP chapter.

Vickie Kennedy became L&I’s Assistant Director for Insurance Services in 2013, having been with L&I in the workers’ compensation field for over 45 years. She currently sits on the Board of Directors for the IAIABC, chairing their Disability

Management and Return to Work Committee and has been recognized as for her public service leadership as a 2016 recipient of the Governor’s Leadership in Management Award and the 2017 L&I’s Agent of Change Award. Vickie recently joined the Advisory Council for the national Workers’ Compensation Benchmarking Study.

Laura Rachel Kaufman, MD, PhD (COHE Medical Director, Kaiser Permanente Washington Group @WPMG Washington Permanente Medical Group)

Laura trained at University of Cincinatti College of medicine (MD, PhD Epidemiology) and University of Utah (Family Medicine and Occupational Medicine residencies). I came to Group Health after several months as Acting Medical Director for Hill AFB dispensory. She has been at GH/KP since Fall, 2005, and was part of the first wave of COHE providers when Valley Medical expanded the COHE. Though she does see new claims, about half of my work is from transfer of care from other providers (and patients) both within and from outside KP.

Jeff Cockrum, JD, MA, CRC, CDMS (Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor @Achieve Consulting Team)

Mr. Cockrum has over 17 years of experience as a vocational rehabilitation counselor after having entered the industry in 2002. His work includes provide vocational support to industrially injured workers, members of the military, and community members. Mr. Cockrum has also appeared in front of the BIIA, Superior Court, and the Social Security Administration. Mr. Cockrum has also completed several one-off contracts, including job analysis development for local employers and the Port of Tacoma, where he developed job analyses for each position at the Port. Mr. Cockrum attended law school at the Seattle University School of Law while continuing to practice as a vocational counselor. He served on the SU Law Review as an R&T Editor and completed a Rule-9 internship. Mr. Cockrum also has a Master of Arts degree in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling from George Washington University. He is certified as a Disability Management Specialist (CDMS) and Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC).
