QUESTION: How long should a vocational case manager stay on Workers' Compensation claim?

Should it be 3-4 months to coordinate RTW? or 2 years to start work re-entry activity in general?

Does pursuing a work release prolong the process. I have my manager asking these questions. She is an RN, CCM

How long should a medical case manager stay on a case? It totally depends on the person and their treatment plan and may change as things evolve.  It is the same with VR. It totally depends on the needs of the injured worker.  We have cases that are open and shut in a month or less and others, that are open a couple years when they are in training.  Most are probably 6 months average.  We deal with people and every person's needs are different. That is what your manager needs to remember.

While I'm on my soap box, may I add that it is ridiculous that the National Council on Compensation Insurance considers VR services as an indemnity expense whereas Case Management is considered cost and containment.  I know not all states have e-mods from NCCI, but for those of us who do, it definitely affects referrals and length of services.

    Happy holidays everyone
