Dr. Christine Bard Award
Compassion and Skill in Rehabilitation Practice
Dr. Christine Bard devoted the majority of her postdoctoral work as an exemplary educator and practitioner in the rehabilitation counseling community in Illinois. As a professor, a supervisor, a clinician, and a colleague, she exemplified the ideals of practice through her kindness and concern, honesty, wisdom, and humor. She modeled the level of care that she sought to embolden her students to practice.
The Dr. Christine Bard Award for Compassion and Skill in Rehabilitation Practice has been developed to celebrate Dr. Bard’s approach to client/student/colleague respect, inspiration, strength, and commitment to the profession.
The ideal nominee would be a rehabilitation practitioner who has:
- Been in rehabilitation practice for a minimum of three years;
- Demonstrated acts of compassion and skill with respect to people with disabilities, their families, and/or to colleagues;
- Provided leadership in the community to strengthen the opportunities for people with disabilities to lead the quality lives of their choosing.
Nominations may be made by colleagues, supervisors, clients and/or client families and should include, at , the following:
- Identifying information about the nominee (name, address, email, education, employment history, positions held).
- statement from nominator explaining specific incidents in which the candidate demonstrated (any of the following):
- Optimal levels of compassion, creativity, and leadership; Skill in advocacy;
- Inspiration to others to act ethically and bravely on behalf of person/family with disabilities.
Deadline for submission of nomination materials is June 30, 2018.
The CBA committee will review all applications and notify recipient and person who nominated by mid-August.
The recipient of the Dr. Christine Bard Award will receive his/her award at the annual Illinois IARP pre-conference dinner in September, supported by independently-collected-funding of this award.
- The recipient, his/her guest, and the person who placed his/her name in nomination will be our guests for the dinner.
- The award recipient will receive a one-year membership to IARP, as well.
