Hello dear colleagues,
Here is an issue I have raised on this forum last year regarding the CareerScope aptitude test battery but I did not get much feedback at the time. I am reporting this, with the hope some people will be able to comment on it specifically.
I have begun using CareerScope a few years ago and like that it yields aptitude scores directly related to DOT aptitude factors. My issue is that the most recent validity and norming data is from 1998 (this blog addresses the question of when a test should be updated but does not provide clear guidance).
I contacted a VRI representative last year and was told there are no plans to re-norm their aptitude test anytime soon. I am wondering what is your experience with CareerScope and how you have dealt with this issue of dated normative data? Do you think using a test that has not been re-normed and validated for 25 years is a problem, a deal breaker perhaps? Have the aptitude constructs (i.e. general learning ability or spatial perception) changed sufficiently in that period of time to warrant an update? In any case, I am looking for more recent alternatives but there does not seem to be many aptitude tests out there that provide GATB compatible scores.
Thank you.
