IARP Student Coaching Program
The student coaching program is a somewhat informal process that pairs a student or recent graduate with an established IARP member. The goal of the program is to allow a student or recent graduate the opportunity to benefit from the expertise and experience of the IARP professional while engaging in their career path. The coaching process can take place via varied methods that include in person meetings, telephonically, or via e-mail. This can be determined by the coach and student/recent graduate. The coaching relationship is not intended to be a long term process, but one that provides the student/recent graduate with information and guidance that will help them in their career decision making process. It would be up to both parties to determine the length of the coaching process. The process would be opened semi-annually prior to the completion of the semester, assuming there would be students preparing on graduating at these times. Matches will be made based on coach availability on a first come first served basis, if application is approved.
Coaches
- A list of interested coaches will be identified.
- The list can be extended ongoing by the program coordinator as needed or if IARP professionals express interest.
- Coaches should be IARP members in good standing with at least 5 years of experience
- There will not be a specific training for coaches, but information will be made available regarding parameters and talking points.
- Coaches will be vetted and contacted by the program coordinator
Students/Recent Graduates
- The program is intended for students nearing the end of their academic vocational rehabilitation program or for those who have recently graduated.
- Students/recent graduates will be notified of an open application period.
- An application form will be made available to students/recent graduates that will include their basic demographics, student status, and their goals of participation.
Matching
- The program coordinator will identify a coach from the list. The coordinator will make contact with the prospective coach to determine if they were willing to take on a specific student/recent graduate at that point in time.
- The coordinator will then notify the student/recent graduate with the coach's contact information.
