Reminder: One Week Remaining to Participate in CORE Standards Survey

By IARP Headquarters posted 07-22-2016 15:22

A friendly reminder to Rehabilitation Counseling Stakeholders!   There is one more week left to participate in the CORE Standards Survey.

The Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE) is a specialized accreditation organization that accredits graduate counseling programs that provide academic preparation for rehabilitation counselors. Historically, CORE's empirically based standards have been identified through various research methods resulting in specific outcomes and expectations important to the academic preparation of entry-level rehabilitation counselors.

Every five years, CORE reviews and modifies its standards to capture current trends in rehabilitation counseling and ensure the rehabilitation counselors of the future are prepared for contemporary practice. The current standards revision process is unique because when CORE and CACREP merge on July 1, 2017, CORE's standards will be published in the CACREP format. Because CACREP accredits multiple specialties within counseling, they have "core" standards, which are common to all counseling and "program area" standards, which are unique to the specific discipline.

The first step in the current standards revision process was to match CACREP's core standards with the corresponding CORE standards. A panel of Subject Matter Experts (SME) conducted the matching of the standards. The CORE standards that remained after the matching process comprise the "program area" standards that will be reviewed in the current survey.

The survey that follows is the next step in the CORE standards revision process. The goal of this survey is to identify and validate the essential foundations, knowledge, and practices necessary in the preparation of entry-level rehabilitation counselors. The results of this survey will be disseminated at least one more time to rehabilitation counseling stakeholders in order to gather sufficient data (feedback and comments) to validate changes to the standards.

As a rehabilitation counseling stakeholder, your feedback on the standards in this survey is vital to the preparation of future entry-level rehabilitation counselors.   Thank you for participating in this survey.
