IARP Courts Rehab Educators at NCRE Conference
Tony Morin,
who represents the Rehabilitation & Disability Case Management
section on the IARP Board of Directors, leads a group of IARP board
members participating in the National Council on Rehabilitation
Education (NCRE) Spring Conference in Manhattan Beach, Calif. March 12 –
15. Tony also has responsibility for IARP student member affairs. At
NCRE he will offer insight based upon a survey of IARP student members
conducted in mid-2013. One highlight of the survey shows the vast
majority (71%) indicated they would prefer to work in the private sector
(insurance, workers compensation, self-employed, etc.) He will present
alternative methods that students can utilize and that educators can
encourage that would allow students to gain additional insights into the
world of private vocational rehabilitation.
As
Morin says, “As a result of the promotion of benefits of IARP student
membership by many of the members of an NCRE and program directors of
CORE accredited programs our association’s student base has grown to
almost 500 members. We are anxious that NCRE members and their guests
know we are committed to working with academic leaders to ensure that
students, who are the future of IARP, are aware of the fact that private
vocational rehabilitation is a vibrant and critical aspect of the total
rehabilitation field.”
A full copy of Morin’s abstract for the NCRE presentation is available here.
President Lynne Tracy and board member Rick Robinson, who represents the IARP Forensic Section, will actively participate in the Manhattan Beach conference.
In
addition to the physical presence of key IARP representatives, IARP is
also running an advertisement promoting what it offers students on the
back cover of the NCRE conference program.

Students Needed to Volunteer for the 2014-2015 Revision of the IARP Code of Ethics, Standards of Practice, and Competencies
by Mary Barros-Bailey, PhD, CRC, CLCP, NCC, CDMS, ABVE/D
What and Why?
IARP
introduced its first code of ethics (COE) in 1981. This living
document provides ethical guidelines to supplement and complement those
codes from credentialing and professional bodies from which IARP’s
members originate.
Because
a code of ethics is a dynamic document, its periodic review, revision,
and update to reflect contemporary needs of IARP members is important.
In January 2014, the IARP Board of Directors accepted a proposal to
develop an ad hoc Code of Ethics Revision Task Force to undertake review
of the current code and provide recommendations as to potential
revisions. The input of student members of IARP is needed in this process.
Who?
If you are a Student Member of IARP and you would like to participate, please use the Volunteer Sign Up form on IARP Connect.
Starting in Phase II, anticipated participation in the Revision Task
Force will be about one to two hours per week through Phase III. Phases
IV and V will likely be 1-2 hours per month. This is a great
opportunity to build your resume and interact with professionals from
across the country.
The
Task Force contains members with little or lots of experience in
professional ethics, who represent different areas of the country, and
are as diverse demographically, in professional discipline, and
geographically as possible given IARP's membership. Students represent
the future of the profession and the association and the input of a
student in the revision process is strongly desired. You can be that
representative!
Your time and involvement is welcomed and appreciated!
