Candidate Statements:
Council of Presidents Representative to the IARP Board of Directors:
Beverly Olsen
Describe your qualifications for the position:
I am a dedicated professional that has been serving in the position of Council of Presidents' Representative to the Board of Directors of
IARP for the last three years. Originally appointed to finish out the last year of Catherine Dunlap's term in this role, in 2013, I then ran for
my first two year term 2014. It was during this year that I was responsible for facilitating and modifying the Leadership Training Conference
in addition to my duties as the Council of Presidents Representative. For the current election I am running for the Council of Presidents
Representative to The Board of Directors of IARP for a second term two year term. My past experience within IARP includes serving as both
the President Elect and President of the New England Chapter. I earned my Masters Degree from Boston University and I have been a C.R.C
in good standing throughout nearly 30 years working within the field of rehabilitation.
What do you hope to accomplish during your term if elected?
During my term I hope to continue to develop connections between people and between chapters which could lead to more effective leadership succession planning, more mentors and coaches and more people who report positive and affirming contact with !ARP. I hope to see more chapters develop dynamic boards that turnover regularly and actively reach out and engage chapter members. We can build on what we are already doing by enhancing the Leadership Training conference, engaging teams of chapter presidents to help work on issues and goals and by providing support to the chapter presidents. I believe chapter presidents can be instrumental in working with chapters that are struggling and I hope in my next term to have a group of Chapter Presidents research, define and strategize ways to strengthen chapters that are having difficulty. Finally I would like to also accomplish the creation of a recognition program for the chapters so we can celebrate chapter successes.
What is your vision for IARP during your term?
My Vision for IARP during my term is for IARP to create more opportunities for Chapter Presidents to share their experience and knowledge in ways that will help the organization focus achieving IARP's Strategic Goals. With regard to the Council of Presidents my vision is to engage the presidents in the process of figuring out what works, what doesn't work and what can be done to contribute to the goals of the Strategic Plan. With all the parts of the organization aligning with IARP’s primary objectives we can continue to grow as a strong leading organization within the field of rehabilitation. On the Council of Presidents we have already begun this process and I would look forward to the opportunity to see more results from what we have started.
